In Greek mythology, Persephone, or Kore, was the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of Spring, wife of Hades and Queen of the Underworld. On one hand, she represents spring, youth, and growing things; on the other, the six months per year she spends in the Underworld aare marked by death, decay and winter’s chill.
