"Firebird" //Illustration Markers and Ink // 2016 // Archival Giclée Print
Even thus by the great sages 'tis confessed
The phoenix dies, and then is born again,
When it approaches its five-hundredth year;
On herb or grain it feeds not in its life,
But only on tears of incense and amomum,
And nard and myrrh are its last winding sheet.
-Dante, Inferno, Canto XXIV
There are so many different versions of the firebird myth in lots of world mythologies, so I felt okay putting this guy on a simple nest of sticks instead of, you know, on the surface of the sun or engulfed in flames. Maybe he's trying to keep a low profile.
All of my illustration prints are created with love and care on my Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer. They are museum-quality, printed on 310gsm Rag Photographique, which is velvety smooth, 100% cotton and acid-free, which means they will last for a very, very long time.
8.5" x 11"
5" x 7"
Prints will arrive unframed, covered with a protective plastic sleeve in a sturdy recycled flat mailer with a piece of scrap chip board for extra support.
I take a lot of pride in the quality of my prints, and strive to photograph them as accurately as possible, but please be aware that every monitor is different, and it's possible that the colors in your print will differ slightly than how it appears on your computer screen.
The original of this illustration is already owned, but if you are looking to purchase an original work, check out my available originals here.
